Welcome, Parents!
Congratulations on your little one! Whether your baby is a few days old or a few months in, gentle bodywork can help them thrive. This guide will walk you through the benefits of chiropractic care for infants and how it can support their comfort and development.
Why Does My Baby Need Bodywork?
Pregnancy and birth are physically demanding for both mom and baby. Less than desirable positioning during pregnancy (breech positions or turning head down early) can create muscle imbalances. Even a smooth delivery can leave an infant with tension or misalignments, affecting feeding, digestion, sleep, and comfort. Chiropractic care helps release this tension, supporting healthy nervous system function and overall well-being.
Signs Your Baby May Benefit from Bodywork
Difficulty latching or nursing preference for one side
Frequent spitting up or reflux
Colic or excessive fussiness
Flat spots on the head (plagiocephaly)
Torticollis (favoring turning head to one side)
Stiffness in arms, legs, or body
Trouble sleeping or frequent waking
If you notice any of these signs, gentle chiropractic adjustments can help address the underlying tension and improve function.
How Chiropractic Care & Bodywork Can Help
At Luxury Spine and Wellness, PLLC, we use gentle, specialized techniques tailored for babies, including:
Cranial Work – Light pressure to support head shape and nervous system development
Myofascial Release – Gentle tissue work to ease tension and improve movement
Soft Mobilizations – Precise, gentle movements that improve spine and joint mobility and nervous system function
These methods are safe, soothing, and beneficial for newborns and infants. Usually parents comment that care looks like a massage and stretch session.
Pre- & Post-Frenectomy Care
If your baby has a tongue or lip tie, bodywork can play a crucial role in improving mobility before and after a frenectomy. Gentle techniques help release compensatory tension in the jaw, neck, and face. This allows much better access to the areas being released during a frenectomy and makes nursing, bottle feeding, and oral function more effective and comfortable.
At-Home Tips for Parents
Want to support your baby’s body at home? Try these:
Tummy Time – Helps strengthen muscles and improve head control-this also stretches the muscles under the chin that connect into the tongue
Infant Massage – Gentle circular motions on the back, arms, and legs promote relaxation and decrease tension in the fascia
Alternating Nursing Positions – Encourages even muscle development and reduces side preference. Whether you prefer a side or baby has a side they nurse more effectively on this can create tension in the neck and shoulders
Stretching and Movement – Lightly guiding baby’s arms and legs through gentle motions enhances mobility
What to Expect During a Visit
Your baby’s visit will be calm, relaxing, and baby-led. We assess posture, movement, and any areas of tightness before applying soft, precise techniques. Parents are welcome to ask questions and be fully involved in the process. After the visit you will get a text with a written explanation of all of the stretches that you should do at home.
